After mining company Rio Tinto 'accidentally' destroyed the Juukan Gorge- a 46,000 year old sacred Aboriginal site. we needed to send a message on the day of their board meeting. We assume the snap meeting was called to discuss for crisis control measures, but we had a different idea- to sack Rio Tinto CEO Jean-Sébastien Jacques.
On 10th September, we flew a plane past their Brisbane office board room meeting, and by the following morning Jean-Sébastien Jacques was FORCED OUT.
The petition leading up gained 30,000 signatures standing in solidarity with First Nations people calling to protect sacred sites.
Rio Tinto needs to change the way they work with Traditional Owners and we need federal laws that give the power to Traditional Owners and protect Aboriginal heritage so this never happens again.
